Laboratory Calculus II

MATH112L

Second semester of introductory calculus with a laboratory component. Emphasis on laboratory projects, group work, and written reports. Methods of integration, applications of integrals, functions defined by integration, improper integrals, introduction to probability and distributions, infinite series, Taylor polynomials, series solutions of differential equations, systems of differential equations, Fourier series. Not open to students who have had Mathematics 122 or 122L. Instructor: Staff

Textbooks: Calculus, by Hughes-Hallett, et al sixth edition, and coursepack.

Prerequisite: Mathematics 106L or 111L (AP/IPC/PMC placement credit for Math 21 is not sufficient if Math 122L is offered) or consent.

Sakai:

  • Joint site: There is a Sakai site for all sections of Math 112L. If you are enrolled in any section of Math 112L, then a link to the joint site should appear in your Sakai account. Announcements, handouts, the solution manual, and other items that pertain to all sections will be posted there.
  • Individual section site: Each teacher has the option of setting up a Sakai account for his/her individual section(s). If your teacher has activitated such a site, it will appear in your Sakai account as a separate link apart from the joint site.
Additional Notes
Beginning in Spring 2016, enrollment in Math 202 or Math 212 requires credit for second semester calculus (Math 22, 112L, 122L, or 122) on your Duke transcript.
 
In fall semesters Math 112L is reserved for continuing students who have taken Math 106L or Math 111L. In spring semesters Math 112L will be the only second-semester calculus course offered and will be open to any students with AP credit for Math 21 or Duke credit for Math 106L or 111L.
