Bringing Data Science to Health Care Delivery

Data Dialogue

Mark Sendak (Duke Institute for Health Innovation)

Thursday, September 14, 2017 -
11:45am to 12:45pm
Location:
Ahmadieh Family Grand Hall (Gross 330)

My presentation will cover two high profile examples of my team at the Duke Institute for Health Innovation (DIHI) building technologies to incorporate predictive analytics and machine learning into health care delivery at DukeHealth. The first example is the deployment of the kidney failure risk equation to improve clinical care within Duke’s accountable care organization. The second example is the development of a sepsis machine learning model to detect infections within Duke University Hospital. I will describe my personal journey as a Duke graduate student combining data science and medicine and the continued role of students and trainees across disciplines in our work. I will wrap up with a look into the future of data science at DIHI and DukeHealth.
