Steklov Eigenvalue bounds for Free Boundary Minimal Surfaces

-
Speaker(s): Peter McGrath (NCSU, Math)
In 1985, Nitsche claimed---without proof---that the only free boundary minimal annulus in the unit ball is a particular portion of a Euclidean catenoid, now known as the critical catenoid. The uniqueness of the critical catenoid remains a challenging open problem. In this talk, I will describe some recent progress (joint work with Robert Kusner).
