What advice would you give students in Duke's Mathematics programs?
"If you want to be seriously considered for academic jobs outside R1, you need an excellent teaching record AND a believable research plan that centrally involves undergraduate collaborators. They will not accept a hand-wavy account of how your research could theoretically involve undergrads. Do your best to earn a teaching award and find summer work as an assistant in an REU or other academic summer program for college students."
