How has being a Mathematics graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"When I started graduate school immediately after graduating from Duke Math, I felt very prepared for my PhD program in Computational Biology. The skills I learned from my classes, and the mentorship and experience I gained from my involvement in mathematical biology research, shaped how I approached the problems I encountered in my graduate research. They still influence the way I approach my current interdisciplinary research projects."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Mathematics programs?

"My biggest piece of advice would be to not give up, even when a class or research project is challenging or doesn't seem immediately useful. It will be worth it in the end, and you never know when something seemingly "useless" you learn might resurface!"
