1990 Major: Mathematics
"Math study at Duke prepared me to take the Property-Casualty Actuary exams offered by the Casualty Actuarial Society, and I passed the first two easily in 1990. That kicked off a long career in the property insurance business, specializing in natural-disasters (hurricanes, flood, wildfires) and how they impact homeownership patterns. I've written two prize-winning papers and branched out to run larger insurance teams, most recently as Chief Financial Officer of a Florida-based insurer."
"Math is a "Swiss Army Knife" degree that will open doors in business, engineering, academia, or even social work and education. Do not assume your career options are limited! Use the Math degree as a stepping stone to success in any professional pursuit!"
